Prof Lois Salamonsen
Professor Lois Salamonsen, PhD, now partly retired, was Senior Principal Research Fellow of NHMRC (2006-2016), first Head of the Centre for Reproductive Health at the Hudson Institute (2014-6) and is adjunct Professor at Monash University. She currently heads the Endometrial Remodelling laboratory at the Hudson Institute.
Lois is an elected Fellow of: The Australian Academy of Sciences (FAA); RANZCOG; SSR and SRB. She was the Founder’s lecturer of SRB (2009), a High Achiever in Health and Medical Research (NHMRC, 2013), and received the Beacon award for mentoring from Frontiers in Reproduction (2014), in recognition of her passion for training young scientists.
Lois’s PhD (1987) examined control of endometrial function in sheep; she subsequently focussed on the human endometrium. Her team are recognized for their contributions to our understanding of endometrial remodelling, the mechanisms underlying menstruation and abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine receptivity, embryo implantation, along with new approaches to female contraception. Their focus has strong emphasis on translational research.
